Indigo Books and Music is looking for Canada ’s best and brightest young book lovers to serve on their Junior Advisory Board (JAB) team. If you love books and are between the ages of 10-16, this is your opportunity. If you know someone that fits the profile, do them a favour and let them know.
Since 2004, Indigo has been selecting 10 book-crazed candidates from across the country to serve on its board, helping them make their tween and teen book section more exciting to young Canadian readers.
Job description
Members of the Indigo Junior Advisory Board (JAB) read many many books --including pre-released ones and provide feedback on the book’s cover, content, theme, likability to Indigo’s CEO, Heather Reisman, and her team. Members also travel to Toronto and participate in regular conference calls with other JAB members across the country and get to be spokespeople for their generation. If that weren’t enough for bookworms, the 10 selected members get to enjoy a wide variety of amazing prizes: a $1,000 gift card from Indigo Books and Music Inc., a trip for two to Toronto, an iPod shuffle, a VIP package from Habbohotel.ca, a $500 book donation for their school library from the Indigo Love of Reading Fund, access to books and manuscripts before they’re even released and much more.
How to apply
Applicants must read any book from Indigo’s Summer Book Scene, then write a short book review (500 words maximum). The review must be submitted either in-store or online at www.jabteam.ca by August 11, 2006 . Winners will be determined by the content of their book review, including their thoughts about the book and characters, what they liked most about the book and personal creativity. Verdun’s Riverview School, part of the Lester B. Pearson School Board, was one of the latest schools (and the only one in Quebec) to benefit from a generous $150,000 donation (payable over a three-year period), from Indigo’s Love of Reading Fund. Perhaps one of the youngsters in our local area will be one of the lucky readers to nab a spot on this year’s Junior Advisory Board. Good luck to all applicants.
